Information about Hamjudo.com

Hardware

  1. Hamjudo: a Sun 3/50 w/8Megs RAM running SunOS 4.1.1. This is my firewall. It doesn't take much of a computer to run simple web services and mailing lists. The limiting factor is the speed of my modem. My service provider charges more money for routing a network rather than a single host. I use a firewall for purely economic reasons.
  2. Porkchop: a Sun 3/50 w/12Megs RAM running SunOS 4.1.1. This is an X server. X performance on a Sun 3/50 is much more reasonable if the Sun doesn't have to do much real work. (It doesn't take much effort to run the refrigerator.)
  3. Pigpen: a Pentium w/32Megs RAM running Linux or MS Windows. This is the machine for real work. I can boot either Linux or Windows depending on what I need to do.
  4. HogWild: a 386 w/8Megs RAM running Linux or MS Windows. This is my test machine. In my new role as consultant, starting January 1995, I'll be setting up networks for clients. It takes at least 2 machines for a network.
  5. the hottub computer: a 6811 with 256 bytes RAM and 2048 bytes EEPROM. This is connected to Hamjudo via a serial cable. It doesn't run an operating system.
  6. the refrigerator computer: a 6811 with 256 bytes RAM and 2048 bytes EEPROM. This is connected to Porkchop via a serial cable. It doesn't run an operating system.

Software

  1. My web server is NCSA httpd 1.3.
  2. I use Majordomo to run some mailing lists. It is available from ftp.greatcircle.com. Here is the Majordomo FAQ.
  3. Most of my own software is written in Perl or C.
